Tidal Basin, rural

B|D landscape architects worked with Carillion Construction Services and HUB Residential to deliver the ‘HOOLA’ project in the Royal Docks through to completion on site. We have undertaken the technical design and construction phases of this podium landscape designed by Churchman Landscape Architects.

Sited at the gateway to the Royal Victoria Docks, the glass clad landmark ‘Hoola’ scheme for HUB Residential comprises 360 apartments ranging from studio units to three bedroom apartments, residential amenities and a commercial unit at ground floor level.

The identical 24 storey towers sit within a landscaped ‘hill’ connecting the lower Tidal Basin Road and the upper Tidal Basin Slip Road and elegantly concealing car and cycle parking and service spaces.

The landscape design we developed included an innovative ‘blue roof’ design strategy to attenuate surface water above the basement car parking zone with a mirror pool water feature and play area over the podium structural slab.

Client: Carillion Construction Services
Architects: CZWG
Landscape Budget: circa £1.25m
Status: Completed in 2017
