We are a dynamic, energetic & dedicated firm of landscape architects committed to the integration of sustainable design to deliver amazing places. We have worked on some of the highest profile squares, streetscapes & campus renaissance projects in the country – winning 7 national Landscape Institute awards in the last 5 years.

Rob founded B|D landscape architects in 2008 having worked in London, Chicago, Bristol & Bath as a project landscape architect on many prestigious and award winning schemes.

Through a broad and diverse background he has worked on a range of internationally acclaimed, innovative and award-winning projects at Grant Assocates in Bath, Novell Tullett in Bristol, Townshend Landscape Architects in London and Hitchcock Design Group in Chicago.

As the founder and director of B|D, Rob’s interest lies in innovative contemporary design that can be seen evolve from sketches on the drawing board through the public engagement, planning and construction processes to finished projects on site enjoyed by the public that leave a sustainable legacy for the future.

Helen Kirk

Associate Landscape Architect

BA Landscape Architecture (First Class) CMLI

Helen joined B|D landscape architects in April 2011 following completion of her first class honours degree at the University of Gloucestershire. Helen became a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute in 2016 and was promoted to Associate in 2018 in recognition of her growing role within the firm.

Helen has built up great experience during her 9 years at B|D working on a range of award winning projects including schools, university campuses, hotels and high quality public realm projects including a number of phases of the King’s Cross Masterplan – including the ground-breaking Pond Club, House of Illustration and Tapper Walk.

More recently, amongst other projects, Helen has been working on a meanwhile landscape at Glassfields in Bristol and a new Pavilion at Fidelity International.

She is particularly interested in the technical side of design work, in particular finding solutions to achieve high quality detailing – her rigour and attention to detail helped B|D win a 2014 Landscape Institute Award for the London South Bank University Public Realm and 2017 Award for the Kings Cross Pond Club.

Emma Gibson

Associate Landscape Architect – London Studio Lead

MA in Landscape Architecture (with distinction) CMLI

Emma joined B|D in 2013, having completed her undergraduate at The University of Sheffield, then returning to the company after gaining a distinction in her Masters in 2015.

In 2018 she became a Chartered Landscape Architect and was promoted to Senior Landscape Architect and upon taking on the role of London Studio Lead she was promoted to Associate Landscape Architect in recognition of her growing role within the design studio.

Working out of the London Studio, based at London Bridge, Emma acts a project lead on a number of educational and residential sector projects within London and the surrounding areas, as well as providing an overseeing role on other schemes. She has extensive experience working with schools, housing developers and architects across a range of development scales; from private gardens to university campuses.

Emma enjoys bringing together the technical elements of a design and putting her creative skills to use as part of the team at B|D. Her interests lie in the detailed design of public realm and educational schemes; combing functionality, practicality and flair to create distinctive landscapes to be cherished by users for years to come.

Guto Jones

Associate Landscape Architect

MA in Landscape Architecture CMLI

Guto joined B|D after 17 years working in Edinburgh, Bristol and Bath for RMJM, Cooper Partnership, Macgregor Smith + Greenhalgh Landscape Architects where he gained valuable experience working on a range of high quality projects from concept to completion.

Guto has led and supported a wide range of projects including urban public realm regeneration schemes, civic squares, schools, retail destinations and mixed use residential schemes from inception through to completion across the UK.

Guto has particular interest in the technical and sustainability side of design work.

Jenna Watkins

Senior Landscape Architect

BA (Hons) PG Dip Landscape Architecture CMLI

Jenna is a chartered landscape architect, who joined B|D in 2019 after over 3 years at LUC where she gained valuable experience working across a range of projects, including a new waterside campus for the University of Northampton.

Her most recent experience at B|D includes residential schemes for the London Borough of Newham and development of the masterplan for Fidelity International campus including high quality central heart zone and new sports pavilion.

Jenna enjoys the initial stages of concept design, through to the technical detail required for a project to be realised. She is particularly interested in design as a tool to enhance people’s connections with their surroundings and the numerous benefits this has on our well-being.

Cat Thomas

Senior Landscape Architect

BA (Hons) Fine Art Sculpture (First Class)
MA Landscape Architecture (with Distinction) CMLI

Cat has joined B|D after 4 years at Nicholas Pearson Associates where she gained valuable experience working on a wide variety of projects, including historic environments, green infrastructure, public realm and higher education schemes.

With a fine art background, Cat initially worked within the historic sectors before converting to landscape architecture. She brings this creative and practical background to her project work, and has recently contributed to an exciting range of schemes including university campus design and management, landscape design for a para 79 dwelling, and involvement in the delivery of Tintagel Castle footpath improvements scheme.

Cat, as a Chartered Landscape Architect, enjoys bringing her interests in ecology, rewilding and people to all her work through both concept and technical design; using a creative approach to connect communities to their landscapes.

Catrin Menzies

Senior Landscape Architect

BA (Hons) Geography
MA Landscape Architecture LMLI

Catrin joined the B|D team in June 2018 following the completion of her Masters where she was awarded a distinction and best student portfolio for her work on ‘Circular Cities and the Post-industrial landscape’.

Through her Geography background and thesis research Catrin has developed a passion for sustainable and resilient landscape design. Always looking to enhance local ecology and connect people with place to promote health and well-being; thus shaping and future proofing our urban and rural areas.

Catrin enjoys being involved in the technical progression from initial concept design through to completion and has been involved in both private and public sector projects at varying scales including the award winning ‘meanwhile’ projects at Elephant Park and the Glassfields public realm projects in Bristol.

Catrin is working towards her Chartership in 2022 and was promoted to Senior Landscape Architect in 2021.

Jared Gilbey

Landscape Architect

MA Landscape Architecture, University of Gloucestershire (Distinction) LMLI

Jared joined B|D in September 2021 after completed his MA in Landscape Architecture at the University of Gloucestershire. After four years working as a Consultant Landscape Architect at EDP, his noteable projects worked on were the London Resort, Leicester City FC’s new training facility, Peking University satellite campus in Oxfordshire and The Belfry Hotel and Resort.

His Master’s Dissertation explored how landscape professionals can utilise visual communication to address key issues relating to climate change through design, education and community engagement. With over 25 years working in the creative industries either as a commercial illustrator, designer or painter, Jared’s skillset is a welcome addition to the B|D team - landscape has now become his creative medium.

Chris Richardson

Landscape Architect

BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture
Dip LA University of Gloucestershire LMLI

Chris is a passionate landscape architect and has been part of the team since 2017 after gaining his Diploma at the University of Gloucestershire.

Chris has previously worked at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show assisting with a variety of gardens. He has strong interests in creating contemporary designs in urban areas enhancing social spaces, pedestrian links and local biodiversity through diverse planting.

Since joining B|D he has taken an interest in 3D software and has become a key member in providing Building Information Modelling for the company. He has also worked on a number of projects in London and the south west that range from the public realm, educational and residential sectors.

He is currently on the Pathway to Chartership.

Clem Whalley

Assistant Landscape Architect

BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture

Clem graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with an undergraduate degree in Landscape Architecture, joining B|D Landscape Architects in 2021 for her year out placement.

Clem is interested in how landscape architecture can be utilised to create healthy and sustainable landscapes that are also accessible, playful and educational. Her final year project involved the design of Alney Island, Gloucester, where she explored flood-resilient design and sense of place to create a new cultural hub for tourism.

Lindsay Beswick

Creative Director

BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture Dip LA (with distinction) CMLI

Lindsay joined B|D landscape architects in 2010 having worked in London, Chicago, and Bath as a project landscape architect on many prestigious and award winning schemes. She brings with her a wealth of creativity and design expertise having worked at EDCO in London, Hayden Bulin Larson in Chicago, & Macgregor Smith in Bath on well publicised and innovative public realm and educational projects.

Lindsay’s expertise lies in the initial design phase of projects and is well adept at creating public realm enhancements of the highest calibre. She is able also to bring these designs to life through the various phases of the project by her enthusiasm and eye for good design.

Mel Webb

Finance Administrator

Mel studied accounting whilst working in the finance sector and achieved a professional diploma in accounting (MAAT). Since then she has gained considerable experience from working in private practice.

Mel joined B|D as bookkeeper in 2017 and now manages all day-to-day aspects of the company’s finances.
