Clifton Village Planning

January 2020

We are pleased that Bristol City Council granted planning permission for a major mixed-use retail, café/restaurant and office development in Clifton Village that we have been working on with THAT Group and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios since 2016.

This landmark project will increase urban tree planting and biodiversity, create a high quality public realm surrounding the building on all 4 sides and deliver a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ scheme in this sensitive Conservation Area.

The Meadow Opens!

December 2019

We are delighted that the Meadow at Elephant Park is now open.

This playful landscape led project for a meanwhile space aims to educate and engage users on the importance of our urban pollinators.

Developed in collaboration for Lendlease with Michael Grubb Studios, and Tom Hare the pocket park uses site-reclaimed timber and tilted landform to create a playful wildflower tapestry with life-size willow woven elephant and towering tulips.

Landscape Institute Awards

November 2019

We were honoured to be finalists with Pocket Living at the 2019 Landscape Institute Awards and humbled to be in the presence of Sir David Attenborough.

A number of the team managed to speak with the living legend and hear first-hand his words ‘you have a great responsibility to bring the realities of the natural world to the understanding and the love of human beings worldwide’.

Emma promoted to Associate

We are delighted to announce that Emma Gibson has been promoted to Associate Landscape Architect.

‘I am delighted to be promoted to Associate + the opportunity it gives me to contribute to the future, and direction, of the practice.

Being a part of the B|D for the past 6 years I have enjoyed seeing the progress of both the company and my colleagues around me. I look forward to the building on the success of the new London Office and hope I can continue to add value to the B|D team in my new position.’

Wilmer Place wins HDA Award

B|D landscape architects were thrilled to have four projects shortlisted for the 2019 Housing Design Awards and were delighted that Wilmer Place was a Project Winner.

The project was designed in close collaboration with Belsize Architects for Casa Bella Developments Ltd on a site with a complex and extensive planning history.

We worked to develop a landscape approach that was sensitive to the significant heritage assets including the listed Abney Park Cemetery and were pleased when planning consent was achieved in December 2018.

Oxford Beecroft RIBA Award Winner

The Beecroft Building, designed by Hawkins\Brown architects with public realm and landscape by B|D, has won a RIBA National Award 2019 as well as the RIBA South Award 2019 and the RIBA South Building of the Year Award 2019.

RIBA judges agreed that the building was a sophisticated, erudite design that is testament to the project team’s close alliance and hard work. The new landscape and public realm includes connections to the University Parks and a high quality quad acting as the main building approach.

The Beecroft Building was officially opened by Sir Tim Berners-Lee on 17th September 2018.

B|D are delighted to welcome Jenna Counsell to the team as a Senior Landscape Architect.

Jenna joined B|D after over 3 years at LUC, where she gained valuable experience working across all project stages on a range of projects, including university campus, historic landscapes, business parks, commercial and residential schemes.

Jenna’s most recent experience includes a new waterside campus for the University of Northampton, where she contributed to campus wide planting and was heavily involved in the delivery of the new student village.

Jenna enjoys the initial stages of concept design, through to the technical detail required for a project to be realised. She is particularly interested in design as a tool to enhance people’s connections with their surroundings and the numerous benefits this has on our well-being.

B|D winners of a 2018 LI award!

B|D were delighted to collect the Landscape Institute ‘Client of the Year’ special award for HUB with whom we have collaborated for a number of years across a wide range of projects.

We nominated HUB because this forward-thinking developer has a progressive approach to delivering thoughtfully designed places and creating great homes for Londoners.

Our collaboration with HUB over the past decade has placed high quality landscape architecture as an integral part of each project, leading to highly successful and award-winning schemes.

HUB’s recognition of the vital role that landscape architects play in creating successful places for people is greatly valued.
